Continuing our adventure at Mel’s, we decided to try out the harder course. The fact is, we were having a good time and although the conditions of the easier course could have been better, it was get progressively nicer out…so since we were there, we did the tougher one too. (Note: this is the purple score card and you go to the left to do this course.)
If the first course was damp, this one was downright soggy wet. And it wasn’t because it had rained earlier. Just gross. On top of that, there was areas where the bricks along the side were out of place and laying in the course. Other holes had massive bare spots in the turf.
Adding insult to injury, one hole even had all the turf missing around the cup and the cup itself was sitting crooked. By some miracle, we both managed to sink decent putts, but still not impressed with the maintenance. It’s bad enough to have to move stones and leaves all the time.
The final nail in the coffin on this course was the hole in the side netting. My ball went right through and into the water – or somewhere. We couldn’t actually see it to retrieve it.
Ken did manage to find a red ball that had suffered a similar fate and retrieved that for me (my hero!), but since it wasn’t my usual purple, my game definitely took a hit.
It wasn’t all bad. There was a cool arbor and bench to start one of the holes for Nurmi to nap under and the company was wonderful. If I got nothing else out of the course (and I really didn’t) at least I enjoyed the company of person playing with me.
Honestly, if you’re looking for somewhere to play and you don’t care about the course conditions, this would be fine, though I’d still say play the easier course instead. But if you’re looking for somewhere that actually cares about their course, go literally anywhere else.
